Acne Treatment at Home

Acne Treatment at Home

Acne can be a major problem and while there are a number of effective medications, many people prefer more natural treatments.

There are several home treatments for acne that are effective and inexpensive. Since these are natural, you can often combine two or more remedies to get your acne under control as quickly as possible.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar helps to kill the bacteria that causes acne and balance the pH of your skin.

The astringent properties of apple cider vinegar helps to soak up excessive oil to prevent clogged pores. Remember that this type of vinegar can be drying, so you do not want to use too much.

Use the following directions to properly use this home treatment:

  • Dilute the vinegar with three parts water and one part vinegar
  • Cleanse your face as you normally would
  • Put your vinegar and water mixture on a cotton ball and apply this directly to your acne
  • Allow the vinegar to sit on the acne for about 10 minutes
  • Cleanse your skin thoroughly
  • Apply a moisturizer to prevent skin dryness

Cinnamon and Honey

Both cinnamon and honey work to kill bacteria due to having antimicrobial and antibiotic properties. You can make a mask using cinnamon and honey to reduce current breakouts and prevent new ones.

Use the following directions:

  • Mix one teaspoon of cinnamon and two tablespoons of honey
  • Cleanse and dry your face
  • Apply the cinnamon and honey mixture to your face
  • Leave it on for about 15 minutes
  • Cleanse your skin thoroughly
  • Apply your regular moisturizer

Papaya

Papaya is a tropical fruit and it is a common ingredient in anti-acne skincare products. This fruit contains enzymes that work to remove excess oil, prevent pus formation, remove dead skin cells and reduce inflammation.

Use the following directions:

  • Mash up one fresh papaya
  • Cleanse your skin and dry it completely
  • Apply the mashed papaya to your face
  • Allow it to sit for about 20 minutes
  • Rinse away the papaya and cleanse your skin
  • Use your usual moisturizer

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is a type of essential oil and it is one of the most popular home remedies for acne. It helps to dissolve dead skin cells and excess oil to unblock the pores and prevent future blockages. It also has the ability to kill the bacteria that can cause acne breakouts.

Make sure to dilute your tea tree oil per the instructions on the bottle before applying it to your skin. In general, you will use nine parts water to one part tea tree oil for proper dilution.

Use the following directions:

  • Cleanse and dry your face as usual
  • Use a clean cotton ball to apply the oil directly to your skin
  • You can let the oil sit overnight
  • Cleanse, dry and moisturize your skin in the morning

Strawberries and Honey

Honey kills bacteria and strawberries naturally contain salicylic acid, an ingredient that is known to treat and prevent acne.

Both work together to encourage new cell growth, neutralize bacteria, reduce oil production and unclog your pores.

Use the following directions:

  • Mash up three strawberries and mix them with two teaspoons of honey
  • Cleanse and dry your face
  • Apply the mixture of strawberries and honey to your entire face like a mask
  • Let the mask sit on your face for 20 minutes
  • Rinse away the mask, cleanse your face and apply your favorite moisturizer

Keep in mind that natural does not automatically mean safe. Because of this, you should talk to your dermatologist before using natural remedies. Your doctor can also help you to choose the home remedies that are most likely to help clear your acne.
